Union Minister of State for Ayush and Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav inaugurated the renovated Unani Research Centre at J.J. Hospital in Mumbai. This initiative, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, aims to integrate traditional systems of medicine into the healthcare framework. By co-locating Unani and conventional medicine, the centre will provide patients with safe, effective, and holistic care supported by scientific research.
Jadhav highlighted the significance of integrating AYUSH systems into mainstream healthcare for comprehensive well-being. He presided over the Unani Day 2026 celebrations and the National Conference on “Innovation and Evidence in Unani Practice” organized by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. Emphasizing the importance of innovation and research, Jadhav stressed the need for generating scientific evidence to support Unani medicine’s future.
The Minister urged institutions like CCRUM and the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM) in Mumbai to lead high-quality clinical research efforts. He emphasized the role of innovation and evidence in shaping the future of Unani medicine. Jadhav encouraged researchers to utilize modern tools such as genomics and artificial intelligence to enhance the scientific understanding of Unani concepts and therapies.
The renovated RRIUM Co-location Centre, established in 1984 and upgraded at a cost of nearly Rs 3.84 crore, aims to enhance clinical services and research facilities within the J.J. Hospital campus. This upgrade is geared towards strengthening Unani medicine facilities and promoting evidence-based research in collaboration with modern medicine systems.
