Union Minister Jitendra Singh will head discussions on women’s rights and empowerment at the two-day “Shakti Samvaad” organized by the National Commission for Women (NCW) in Srinagar from Saturday. The event, scheduled for May 16 and 17, will convene State Women Commissions from across the country to focus on women’s rights, institutional coordination, and mechanisms for women’s safety. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar will also address the gathering, emphasizing the need for responsive governance and stronger collaboration to protect women’s rights and dignity.
The consultation will cover various topics including State Progress Snapshot, State Law Review from a Women’s Rights Perspective, Recent Supreme Court and High Court Judgments on Women, Addressing Stalking – Legal & Institutional Response, and Women and the New Labour Codes: Safeguarding Rights, Welfare, and Workplace Dignity. “Shakti Samvaad” serves as a key consultative platform of the National Commission for Women to enhance coordination and engagement between NCW and State Women Commissions.
This initiative, now in its fourth edition, demonstrates NCW’s dedication to collaborative policymaking and institutional strengthening for women’s welfare nationwide. The choice of Srinagar as the venue underscores the increasing involvement of institutions and stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the significance of inclusive dialogue and coordinated governance in promoting women’s rights and access to justice.
The event will witness the participation of senior government officials, legal experts, law enforcement representatives, policymakers, and members of State Women’s Commissions from various parts of the country.
