Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, marked World Environment Day by planting a Palash sapling at his official residence as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. This initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5, 2024, encourages citizens to plant trees in honor of their mothers, aiming to strengthen environmental consciousness and promote sustainable living practices.
Scindia emphasized that tree plantation is crucial for safeguarding the environment and highlighted the campaign’s success in fostering public engagement nationwide. He stressed that environmental conservation is a collective responsibility that extends beyond governments, urging every citizen to contribute by planting trees for a greener future. The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign has garnered significant public support, evolving into a widespread movement for environmental preservation.
The first phase of the campaign witnessed the planting of millions of saplings across India in 2024. Building on this momentum, the second phase, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’, has been launched this year to further expand the tree planting initiative. Scindia called upon citizens to actively participate in the campaign by planting at least one tree, underscoring the importance of individual contributions in achieving the campaign’s objectives.
