Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia visited Sikkim’s Namchi district to oversee key infrastructure and development projects. He inspected the under-construction Khangchendzonga Sikkim State University, supported by the North Eastern Council, expected to host over 1,500 students. Scindia emphasized incorporating green elements into the university’s design to align with Sikkim’s eco-friendly ethos.
Scindia also toured the Temi Tea Garden, engaging with workers and officials to explore the tea estate’s production and export potential. He discussed transitioning the tea processing unit to liquefied petroleum gas-based manufacturing for reduced carbon footprint. The Minister then visited the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco Tourism, evaluating the Namchi–Temi–Ravangla tourism circuit’s progress, aimed at boosting tourism with the Ministry’s backing.
Furthermore, Scindia attended the Sikkim Premier League semi-final match at Bhaichung Stadium, underscoring PM Modi’s vision to elevate the Northeast as a significant sporting destination. He also inspected the Bhuleydunga Skywalk Project, a Rs 220 crore initiative under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North East Region. The project envisions a 240-metre circular glass skywalk at an altitude of 3,200 metres, poised to be the world’s highest upon completion.
