Reacting to the cross-voting in the recent Legislative Council election in Karnataka, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, expressed that he was not surprised by the outcome. Kumaraswamy mentioned that he had foreseen the cross-voting and was not perturbed by the results.
Kumaraswamy stated that he had expected certain legislators to cross-vote and had low expectations from the election. He emphasized that he was aware of the possibility beforehand, which is why he remained calm even before the results were announced.
He further explained that fielding a candidate from his party was a strategic move to test the loyalty of the legislators. Kumaraswamy refrained from discussing the reasons behind the cross-voting publicly, acknowledging that various factors might have influenced the decisions of the legislators.
Claiming to be well-informed about the political discussions and developments within the party, Kumaraswamy alleged that some legislators had engaged in cross-voting and even contemplated leaving the party. He asserted that he had closely monitored the party’s internal dynamics over the past three years.
Expressing confidence in the younger generation, Kumaraswamy mentioned the party’s readiness to nurture emerging leaders and build a new generation of leadership. The Legislative Council election in Karnataka saw all five Congress candidates emerging victorious, with the BJP securing two seats, while the JD(S) faced defeat.
