Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia introduced the “Arunachal Kiwi” mission in Arunachal Pradesh. This initiative aims to enhance kiwi cultivation, marketing, and economic development in the region with an investment of around Rs 167 crore. The mission, named ‘Mission on Arunachal Kiwi: The USP of Arunachal Pradesh,’ is a collaborative effort involving various government bodies, institutions, and private investors.
The mission focuses on a cluster-based approach and identifies six integrated cluster-level Post-Harvest Management Hubs across different regions in Arunachal Pradesh. It includes over 30 strategic interventions to address gaps in the kiwi value chain, improve price realization, establish cold-chain infrastructure, and integrate farming households into a comprehensive ecosystem. The goal is to transform Arunachal Pradesh into a premium, traceable, single-origin organic Kiwi economy.
Emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering farmers in the agricultural value chain, the Minister highlighted the convergence-driven nature of the initiative. The mission aims to strengthen the entire kiwi value chain, enhance shelf life, promote value addition, and increase farmers’ incomes. It also envisions positioning Arunachal Organic Kiwi in international export markets by FY 2028, supported by branding and market integration strategies.
The initiative seeks to leverage Arunachal’s unique harvest window, offering a market advantage in South-East Asian, Middle Eastern, and European markets. It also aims to promote farm-to-fork tourism experiences, positioning Arunachal Pradesh as a niche destination for organic horticulture tourism. The success of the mission will be measured by the premium shelf space secured by “Arunachal Organic Kiwi” in domestic and international markets, ensuring a significant increase in farmer value realization.
