Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal Khattar met with Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to discuss enhancing energy security, hydropower cooperation, and cultural ties between the two nations. Tobgay expressed pleasure in welcoming Khattar and highlighted the importance of strengthening the enduring friendship between Bhutan and India through energy and hydropower collaboration. Khattar, in turn, emphasized India’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Bhutan across various levels, citing the strong bond of trust and respect between the two countries.
During his visit to Bhutan, Khattar paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tobgay to explore avenues for further strengthening the historical, cultural, and people-to-people relations between India and Bhutan. The ministers acknowledged the unique and exemplary partnership shared by the two countries, built on mutual trust and goodwill. Khattar also reiterated India’s dedication to collaborating with Bhutan at all levels, in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.
The visit of Union Minister Khattar to Bhutan, spanning four days, was marked by a warm reception from Bhutan’s Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Lyonpo Gem Tshering and India’s Ambassador to Bhutan Sandeep Arya. The trip underscored the mutual commitment of India and Bhutan to deepen cooperation in clean energy, promote cross-border power trade, and support Bhutan’s socio-economic progress.
