Union Minister for Power & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, met with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha in Agartala to discuss the state’s power sector and urban development schemes. They focused on areas for collaboration between the State power department and State Power sector PSUs, including the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and DISCOM’s operational and financial aspects.
Khattar stressed the importance of reducing Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses and enhancing DISCOMs’ financial performance. He urged for improved revenue collections, especially through prepaid metering for Government consumers. The minister also assessed the progress of smart metering in the State, pushing for swift implementation and conversion of Government consumers to prepaid metering by August 2026.
Additionally, the review covered resource adequacy and intra-State Transmission planning to meet rising demand, with a focus on ensuring transmission capacity growth aligns with demand. The State committed to enhancing intra-State transmission infrastructure promptly. Progress under PM-KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was discussed, emphasizing the installation of Rooftop Solar for 2 lakh consumers by March 2027 to expand access to clean energy and reduce electricity costs.
Manohar Lal Khattar assured continued Government of India support for Tripura’s development. The Chief Minister pledged to expedite sanctioned works and enhance the power sector’s overall performance. The meeting included Tripura’s Minister for Power, senior officials from both State and Union Ministries, and Power Sector Central public sector enterprises.
