Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, recently met with the First Minister of Scotland, John Swinney, in Glasgow before the commencement of the Commonwealth Games 2026. Mandaviya expressed optimism for both the upcoming Games in Scotland and India’s hosting of the centennial edition in 2030.
During his visit to Glasgow, Mandaviya commended the local host team for their warm hospitality as they finalize preparations for the quadrennial multi-sport event. The 10 sports to be showcased at Glasgow 2026 will feature top global talent, including multiple Olympic and Paralympic champions and reigning Commonwealth gold medallists competing over the 11-day event.
Mandaviya also had discussions with the president of Commonwealth Sport, Donald Rukare, regarding the 100th anniversary of the Games scheduled to be held in India in 2030. The Commonwealth community is eagerly anticipating the centenary edition hosted by India, as highlighted during the meetings.
India was officially granted hosting rights for the historic 2030 centenary edition during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly last year, with Ahmedabad, Gujarat, designated as the primary host city. This will be India’s second time hosting the Commonwealth Games, following the 2010 edition in New Delhi. The 2030 edition is expected to feature around 15-17 sports, including Archery, Badminton, Cricket T20, Hockey, Shooting, and more.
