Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced that the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has already reached over 40 lakh beneficiary households in two years. The scheme is on track to exceed 75 lakh households by December 2026.
At an event celebrating ‘Two years of PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana: Scaling the solar home to one crore rooftops,’ Minister Joshi emphasized the Utility-Linked Aggregation (ULA) model’s role in accelerating implementation, especially among underserved households. Around 30 lakh rooftop solar installations are planned across states, with utilities facilitating faster adoption.
The initiative targets families consuming between 1 kW and 3 kW of electricity, aiming to provide wider access to affordable clean energy. With more than 65 lakh applications in progress, the scheme is witnessing significant public engagement and momentum nationwide. India’s solar growth is rapidly advancing, with notable achievements in recent months.
The pace of adoption has increased significantly, with over Rs 22,750 crore in subsidies already dispersed, including a substantial amount in May 2026 alone. Minister Joshi highlighted the scheme’s contribution to creating one of the world’s largest residential solar markets and advancing India’s clean energy transition. The initiative not only enhances energy access but also reduces the subsidy burden on DISCOMs.
