Union Minister Pralhad Joshi of Food, Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs expressed worries about the dominance of family politics in Davanagere South, cautioning that it could harm democracy. Joshi believes voters, questioning the preference given to a single family, will support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming election.

During a press conference in Davanagere, Joshi highlighted the lineage of Congress leader late Shamanur Shivashankarappa, his son S.S. Mallikarjun, and their family’s political positions. He criticized the trend of distributing tickets within families, warning that a victory for the Congress could lead to a prolonged monopoly on power.

Joshi accused the Congress of promoting family-centric politics in Davanagere, drawing parallels to the Gandhi family. He emphasized the need for voters to address the issue seriously, pointing out the risks associated with concentrating power within a single family.

The Minister further criticized the Congress for alleged corruption and misgovernance, claiming that the party’s focus on family and appeasement politics has hindered development in Davanagere. Joshi expressed concerns about the implications of such practices on democracy and urged people to consider the long-term consequences.
