Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedication to the safety and well-being of Indian citizens residing overseas. Puri mentioned that PM Modi took the initiative to bring back Indian students stranded in Ukraine during the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv in 2022. He assured that similar efforts would be made in the future if necessary.
Puri also noted that the Indian government successfully repatriated Indian students, including those holding passports of other countries like the US, during the Ukraine conflict. When asked about the advisory for Indian nationals in Iran to leave immediately, Puri refrained from speculating on the duration of the ongoing war but highlighted PM Modi’s swift actions in previous global crises.
The minister recalled instances where Indian citizens, including those with American passports, were safely evacuated from conflict zones under PM Modi’s leadership. He expressed confidence in Modi’s commitment to Indian communities worldwide, citing past evacuation operations in Sudan and other regions. India has reiterated its travel advisory for Iran amid escalating tensions, urging its nationals to avoid travel to the region and facilitating their safe return.
