Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh visited the blast site near Shambhu in Punjab to assess the security situation along the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) of the Indian Railways. Expressing concern over the repeated incidents targeting railway infrastructure in the state, he assured the implementation of strict measures to enhance safety and monitoring.
Singh announced plans to increase 24-hour patrolling along the EDFC and expand surveillance coverage, with the installation of additional CCTV cameras in the Ambala division of Punjab. Advanced monitoring methods, including drone surveillance, will be deployed in secluded and vulnerable sections of the corridor to prevent future incidents.
Emphasizing the need for track safety, Singh mentioned that railway personnel will conduct continuous ground patrols. He highlighted the recent blast near Shambhu, which is the second such incident within three months, indicating possible external involvement aiming to disrupt critical infrastructure like railways. The minister stressed that these acts not only pose security threats but also impact economic activities in the state.
In response to the incident, Punjab Police apprehended a ‘pro-Khalistani’ terror module with alleged links to Pakistan’s ISI, preventing a potential disaster. The government is committed to safeguarding railway assets, ensuring passenger and freight safety, and sustaining economic operations along the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor.
