Reacting to the alleged abuse of a senior woman Municipal Commissioner by a Congress leader in Chikkaballapur district, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy contacted Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh to address the incident. The BJP has also called for the accused Congress leader to be charged under the Goonda Act. The controversy arose from a purported audio recording of the Congress leader verbally attacking and threatening the woman Municipal Commissioner.
The accused, local Congress leader Rajeev Gowda, is reported to have used derogatory language and issued death threats to the Municipal Commissioner. Rajeev Gowda, a KPCC state coordinator and former candidate from the Sidlaghatta Assembly constituency, is at the center of the controversy. Union Minister Kumaraswamy expressed his dismay to Chief Secretary Rajneesh over the lack of protection for female officers under her administration and demanded the immediate arrest of the Congress leader involved.
BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra criticized the behavior of Congress leaders, stating that their actions reflect poorly on the party’s culture. He condemned the Congress leader for his misconduct towards a female officer and called for strict action to be taken. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, highlighted the increasing arrogance of Congress leaders and demanded the immediate arrest of Rajeev Gowda under the Goonda Act.
