Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat emphasized the Modi government’s focus on uplifting the poor, stating that nearly 30 crore individuals have risen above the poverty line due to its welfare programs. Speaking at a village event in Dungarpur district, Shekhawat mentioned how families previously grappling with poverty now live with dignity, thanks to government initiatives.
During the pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured that no impoverished person went hungry by initiating a widespread free ration distribution drive. This effort provided free food grains to approximately 80 crore people nationwide, a support that continues till today. Shekhawat commended the Rajasthan government for encouraging financially stable households to surrender their BPL cards voluntarily, enabling more deserving recipients to benefit.
Highlighting the positive impact of welfare-driven governance, Shekhawat noted that around 80 lakh individuals in Rajasthan willingly relinquished their BPL cards, affirming their self-sufficiency and redirecting assistance to genuinely needy families. He also lauded the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, where Rs 6,000 is annually transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts, with Rajasthan augmenting the aid to Rs 10,000, showcasing effective collaboration under the “double-engine government.”
Shekhawat reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing opportunities for youth through education, skill development, and healthcare initiatives, emphasizing the importance of empowering young individuals with quality training and improved job prospects for a prosperous future.
