Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for bringing development to the grassroots level, empowering beneficiaries through welfare schemes. Speaking at the 17th Central Mid-Term Conference of the Assam Press Correspondents’ Union (APCU) in Tinsukia, Sonowal highlighted the government’s people-centric governance model that fosters social upliftment and economic progress.

Acknowledging the media as the fourth pillar of democracy, Sonowal described journalists as essential guardians of society and the authentic voice of the people. He emphasized the media’s crucial role in upholding freedom of expression and democratic values in an ever-changing information landscape.

Sonowal underscored the responsibility of journalists in practicing responsible journalism by prioritizing truth, credibility, and ethical reporting. He urged media professionals to combat misinformation and sensationalism while acting as a bridge between the government and the public, addressing public concerns and promoting social cohesion.

Highlighting the significance of cooperation, dialogue, and consensus-building, Sonowal emphasized the media’s potential to enhance society through constructive engagement. He stressed the need for journalists to continually enhance their skills, maintain professional integrity, adapt to new technologies, and uphold public interest journalism.

At a separate event, Sonowal participated in the foundation stone laying and inauguration of various welfare schemes, interacting with beneficiaries of the Prime Minister’s flagship programs. He also engaged with local entrepreneurs, recognizing their role in boosting the local economy.
