Two individuals in South Korea were caught cheating on the TOEIC English-language proficiency test by using AI glasses. The incident, a first of its kind in the country, occurred during the exams held on May 10 and 31. The Korea TOEIC Committee invalidated the test results of the cheaters and imposed a four-year ban on them from taking the test again.
AI glasses, equipped with cameras, microphones, and generative AI technology, were used by the cheaters to receive information during the exam discreetly. These glasses, resembling regular spectacles, are challenging to detect visually. To combat such cheating methods, the committee has been training proctors to identify AI glasses effectively. Additionally, there are discussions about prohibiting the use of such devices during important exams like the annual college entrance test.
