Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has called on the Opposition to cooperate and engage in a detailed discussion on the exam amendment bill to ensure the smooth functioning of the House. The bill aims to protect students’ futures and enhance the country’s examination system. Despite the introduction of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha, the proceedings were disrupted by Opposition sloganeering.

Rijiju criticized the Congress and other Opposition parties for avoiding a discussion on the legislation, emphasizing its significance for students nationwide. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to reform the examination system and combat paper leaks and examination-related crimes. The government introduced the bill to prevent such incidents and uphold the integrity of examinations in the future.

Emphasizing the importance of parliamentary discussion, Rijiju stressed that preventing dialogue on the bill would convey a negative message to students. He urged the Opposition to prioritize students’ concerns and engage constructively in the debate. Rijiju underscored that Parliament serves as a crucial platform for addressing national issues and expressed disappointment over the disruptions during the proceedings.

Renewing his appeal, Rijiju urged all political parties to transcend political differences and participate in a meaningful debate on the legislation. He called for consensus across party lines to ensure a detailed discussion and unanimous passage of the bill in the students’ best interest. Rijiju cautioned against diverting attention from examination reforms and student welfare, emphasizing the need for a focused discussion on the proposed legislation.
