Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar announced that 7.28 lakh senior citizens have received assistive devices for mobility, vision, and hearing under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY). The minister highlighted the importance of promoting active and dignified aging through community-based initiatives and intergenerational engagement. Kumar emphasized the role of senior citizens as custodians of experience, tradition, and values, stating they are a valuable asset to the nation.
A special event called “Celebration of Intergenerational Bonds” was held in Biaora, Rajgarh, organized by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The event aimed to strengthen emotional, social, and cultural bonds between different generations. The program focused on promoting active and dignified aging among senior citizens.
Kumar also mentioned the success of Elderline 14567, which has assisted senior citizens with over 27 lakh calls, offering support, guidance, and emergency assistance. He shared initiatives promoting intergenerational bonding through cultural and community programs nationwide. The minister highlighted the positive impact of celebrating Grandparents’ Day in schools to enhance mutual respect and cooperation between generations.
The event underscored the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and elder-friendly society through intergenerational engagement and community participation. It emphasized how the wisdom and values of senior citizens, combined with the energy and curiosity of youth, contribute to a balanced and progressive society.
