A meeting led by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi included Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. The focus was on water resources, irrigation, and drinking water issues. Rajasthan will be provided its share of water as per the 1994 Upper Yamuna River Board Agreement through a dedicated pipeline, with a memorandum of understanding set to be signed soon.
Haryana’s CM Saini assured Rajasthan of receiving its entitled water share and stressed the importance of coordinated water resource management among states. Rajasthan’s CM Sharma emphasized the need for its allocated water share and suggested utilizing surplus monsoon water to address the drinking water crisis. Discussions also highlighted the significance of dam projects like Renuka, Kishau, and Lakhwar in meeting future water needs and improving irrigation and drinking water supply.
Efforts to prevent polluted water from entering the Ghaggar River were discussed, with plans for separate treatment plants to ensure water cleanliness. The meeting underscored the importance of inter-state cooperation in water management and conservation. Union Minister Patil urged swift action and stressed the necessity of enhanced coordination for effective water resource utilization.
