Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh visited innovator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. Wangchuk had been shifted from Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital for further treatment as per a Delhi High Court order. He was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit under the care of Dr. Sushila Kataria, an internal medicine specialist.
The meeting between the Union ministers and Wangchuk took place on Tuesday night. This encounter occurred as Wangchuk continued his 24th day of an indefinite hunger strike. He had expressed his determination to continue the strike until protesting student leaders could meet MPs at Parliament House or parliamentarians could visit him at the hospital.
Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, mentioned that he had decided to persist with the hunger strike until Parliament addressed the alleged actions of the Delhi Police against protesters during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march. She highlighted instances of alleged police brutality towards students and stated that Wangchuk stood in solidarity with them until their demands were acknowledged in Parliament.
In response to accusations of agitators attacking police personnel, Angmo recounted an incident where she was protected by a human chain when police attempted to take another individual. She emphasized the need for justice and solidarity, reflecting on the events surrounding the protests.
