With the Supreme Court halting the bail granted to Unnao rape convict and former UP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the survivor is urging for the death penalty, believing it to be the only way her father can receive justice. She expressed that her father’s soul remains restless since his death in 2018, emphasizing that justice for him lies in the punishment of the perpetrators. Sengar, apart from the rape case, was also implicated in the survivor’s father’s demise in 2018 and was convicted in that instance.
Expressing her trust in the apex court, the survivor remains hopeful that justice will prevail in the end. She conveyed her gratitude to those who supported her during her struggles for justice, stating her determination to continue the fight until the convict is sentenced to death. The victim’s mother also extended thanks to the Supreme Court for its involvement and expressed relief that justice is being pursued.
The Supreme Court intervened by staying the Delhi High Court’s order that had suspended Sengar’s life sentence and granted him bail in the 2017 Unnao rape case. The court clarified that Sengar would not be released following the Delhi High Court’s order and directed him to respond to the Central Bureau of Investigation’s plea within four weeks. The bench acknowledged the peculiar circumstances of the case, leading to the stay on the high court’s decision.
