The Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, known as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, has experienced a remarkable increase in visitors and contributions this year. Records from the temple committee reveal that between January 1 and December 15, the temple collected over Rs 107 crore from donations and ticket sales, including significant amounts of gold and silver.
This year, the temple’s total earnings have reached nearly Rs 1 billion, surpassing last year’s income by Rs 15 crore. The temple’s administrator, Pratham Kaushik, attributed this success to the unwavering faith of devotees, resulting in substantial offerings of gold, silver, cash, and gifts from all over the country.
The temple typically welcomes around 1.20 lakh devotees daily on regular days, with weekend numbers ranging from 1.5 to 1.75 lakh visitors. Since the beginning of the year, over 5.5 crore devotees have visited the temple, and an additional 6 lakh devotees are expected between December 25 and January 31, contributing to the temple’s growing prosperity.
The construction of the Mahakal Mahalok corridor has notably boosted the temple’s popularity, attracting larger crowds and increasing donations. Apart from monetary and ornamental contributions, devotees also support the temple through the purchase of quick darshan tickets and laddoo prasad, becoming significant revenue sources.
Officials emphasized that the reported income does not include revenue from various services like Bhasma Aarti bookings, Abhishek Puja, community kitchen services, guesthouse bookings, photography charges, monthly fees, bhang and flag bookings, and the Ujjain Darshan bus service. With a few days left in the year, the temple anticipates further contributions, potentially setting new financial records.
Administrator Kaushik expressed gratitude for the overwhelming devotion shown by pilgrims. The Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple remains a symbol of steadfast faith, with its increasing income reflecting the profound devotion of millions seeking blessings from Baba Mahakal.
