The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has accused Pakistani police of brutality, excessive force, arbitrary arrests, and violations of fundamental rights, leading to numerous deaths. The group expressed concerns about the deteriorating rule of law and human rights protection in the region. Dr. Masood Khalid, a resident of PoK, shared a video detailing a police raid on his home and the harassment faced by his family.
In the video, Dr. Khalid recounted a harrowing incident where masked police officers stormed his house in the middle of the night, physically assaulting him and destroying property. He described being subjected to verbal abuse, threats, and intimidation, despite identifying himself as a medical doctor. Khalid named specific police officials allegedly involved in the incident, urging for an investigation and justice.
JAAC called for international human rights organizations to intervene and address the escalating human rights crisis in PoK. The group emphasized the need for independent scrutiny, accountability, and justice for victims of rights violations. Stressing the importance of holding perpetrators accountable, JAAC highlighted the fear and trauma experienced by citizens under the current circumstances.
