In a move to extend cashless mediclaim to the teaching community, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet sanctioned this benefit for around 15 lakh employees in the education sector, including teachers, non-teaching staff, and their dependents. The decision by the Yogi Adityanath Cabinet aims to cover teachers, non-teaching staff, and dependents of government-aided and self-financed schools under the Basic and Secondary Education Council.

Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna disclosed that out of 32 proposals presented, 30 were approved by the cabinet. The initiative, initially announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Teachers’ Day last year, received formal approval from the state cabinet recently. The cashless facility will be accessible in both government and private hospitals.

Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi mentioned that over 2.97 lakh beneficiaries are expected to benefit from this scheme, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 89.25 crore. Additionally, teachers, Shiksha Mitras, special educators, instructors in schools recognized by the Basic Education Council, and their dependents will also be covered.

Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh highlighted that more than 11.95 lakh teachers and staff linked with the Basic Education Council will be covered under this scheme. The annual financial allocation for this initiative is projected at Rs 358.61 crore, with an average annual premium of about Rs 3,000 per employee. The cashless treatment will be provided in government and private hospitals under the SACHIS, aligning with the rates set by the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and National Health Authority norms.

Teachers from self-financed recognized institutions will receive benefits post verification. District-level committees will be formed under the chairmanship of the District Inspector of Schools and the Basic Education Officer for this purpose.
