Navi Mumbai witnessed a remarkable feat as UP Warriorz skipper Meg Lanning surpassed Ellyse Perry’s run tally to secure the second-highest run-scorer position in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Following her 27-ball 30-run innings, Lanning now totals 981 runs, trailing Mumbai Indians all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt by just 50 runs.
Sciver-Brunt, the leading run-scorer with 1031 runs after the first match of WPL 2026, stands as the sole player in the tournament to have crossed the 1000-run mark, courtesy of her exceptional performance in the 2025 season. The ongoing season is witnessing a competitive race between Lanning and Sciver-Brunt for the top spot in the all-time highest run-scorers list of the tournament.
Meg Lanning, the current captain of Warriorz, has been a consistent performer in WPL history. Previously playing for Delhi Capitals, she amassed 952 runs in 27 matches across the first three seasons, aiding the team in reaching the finals each time. Released by DC before WPL 2026, Lanning was acquired by UP Warriorz, who also appointed her as the team’s captain for the current season.
Ellyse Perry, concluding her third consecutive WPL season representing RCB, achieved a total of 972 runs. Despite being a key player in RCB’s triumph in 2024, Perry withdrew from WPL 2026 due to personal reasons. The ongoing WPL 2026, commencing on January 9 and concluding on February 5, will culminate with the final match at the BCA Stadium (Kotambi) in Vadodara.
