The Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission Chief, Babita Singh Chauhan, countered Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav’s suggestion of separate reservations for Muslim women post the Women’s Reservation Bill. Chauhan emphasized that women should not be confined by caste or religion but should be viewed as half of the population. She questioned the need for reservations based on religion, stating that women transcend such boundaries.
Responding to Yadav’s comments, Chauhan reiterated that women do not belong to a specific religion or caste but represent half of the nation’s populace. She supported Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s stance, suggesting that if Yadav desires, his party can allocate tickets to Muslim women. Chauhan highlighted the importance of equal representation for women, irrespective of their background.
Chauhan praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for proposing the reservation for women without considering religious affiliations. She commended Modi’s focus on women’s participation in decision-making processes, emphasizing that women deserve a role in the mainstream. Chauhan underscored the significance of women’s involvement in governance and decision-making, echoing Modi’s inclusive approach.
