US Ambassador Sergio Gor emphasized the importance of shared humanitarian values in strengthening ties during a visit with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata. Gor mentioned that the partnership between the US and India is not just based on policies but also on common values and the spirit of selfless service. Rubio’s visit to Kolkata marks the beginning of his official four-day tour of India, his first since taking office last year.
Rubio arrived in Kolkata on Saturday morning and was welcomed by senior officials. The US Secretary of State is set to visit several Indian cities, including Agra and Jaipur, during his stay. Ambassador Gor stated that Rubio is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, reflecting efforts by both countries to enhance cooperation on strategic and economic matters amidst global challenges.
Gor, on social media, expressed his pleasure in welcoming Rubio to India and highlighted the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting, aimed at advancing the vision for a stronger US-India partnership. Rubio is also expected to engage in bilateral discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, where ministers from India, the US, Australia, and Japan will convene.
The Quad meeting, scheduled for May 26 in New Delhi, will focus on enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as strengthening collaboration in defense, trade, energy security, and regional stability amid changing geopolitical dynamics.
