The United States and India are encouraged to strengthen their partnership in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to counter authoritarian models and influence the global digital landscape. A new bilateral report, the U.S.–India AI and Emerging Technology Compact, emphasizes that leadership in AI will not only impact economic growth but also national security and the values governing the digital era.
The report underscores the need for a collaborative approach that leverages the strengths of both nations without creating a hierarchical relationship. It advocates for a joint effort to move beyond theoretical research and focus on practical applications in various sectors such as healthcare, energy, and defense.
Furthermore, the report suggests the establishment of a public-private U.S.–India AI Coalition to prioritize commercial and dual-use applications. It also highlights the importance of infrastructure development, talent enhancement, and aligning semiconductor incentives between the two countries to accelerate AI projects and maintain competitiveness.
The compact aims to address the competitive challenge posed by China and underscores the significance of allies and partners in countering Beijing’s rapid execution capabilities. By working closely together, the US and India can prevent authoritarian platforms from dominating emerging markets and empower India with strategic influence.
