External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently held discussions with a US Congressional delegation, including Mike Rogers, Adam Smith, and Jimmy Patronis, along with US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, in New Delhi. The talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations, developments in the Indo-Pacific region, and the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
Jaishankar highlighted the importance of such interactions, stating that discussions with US officials have always been crucial for the India-US relationship. Earlier meetings with US Senator Steve Daines and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also emphasized various aspects of cooperation, including trade, civil nuclear energy, and regional security in the Indo-Pacific.
The conversations between Jaishankar and Rubio specifically touched upon areas such as trade negotiations, critical minerals, and civil nuclear cooperation. Both diplomats expressed interest in furthering economic cooperation and strengthening ties in the Indo-Pacific region. The United States commended India’s recent legislation on nuclear energy and expressed a desire to enhance civil nuclear cooperation between the two countries.
