United States Republican Congresswoman, Anna Paulina Luna, has called for the immediate suspension and cancellation of F-1 and J-1 student visas held by Chinese nationals studying at American higher education institutions. This action follows recently declassified intelligence revealing the Chinese Communist Party’s alleged interference in US elections.
Luna, in a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, highlighted President Donald Trump’s claims of China orchestrating a campaign to disrupt US elections. The declassified documents suggest China engaged in cyber espionage during the 2020 election cycle, including stealing voter information.
Stressing the vulnerability of American universities to foreign intelligence, Luna emphasized the need to prevent Chinese influence operations through the student visa pipeline. She urged the Department of State to review and revoke existing Chinese student visas and halt new visa issuances pending further investigation.
Trump, in a televised address, disclosed the declassification of intelligence records exposing alleged Chinese efforts to influence US politics. He stated that China obtained 220 million US voter files, marking a significant compromise of election data.
