The United States Embassy in India recently posted US President Donald Trump’s message congratulating Taranjit Singh Sandhu on becoming the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Trump praised Sandhu’s diplomatic experience and efforts in strengthening the relationship between the US and India. Sandhu, a former Ambassador to the United States, is recognized for his significant role in enhancing bilateral ties during his tenure.

Trump commended Sandhu’s diplomatic career and expressed confidence in his ability to lead Delhi effectively. Sandhu, who served as India’s Ambassador to the US from 2020 to 2024, is credited with deepening strategic and diplomatic relations between the two nations. His prior diplomatic roles, including at the Embassy of India in Washington, DC, and the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, highlight his extensive experience in US affairs and global diplomacy.

With a wealth of experience in foreign policy and international relations, Sandhu has actively contributed to India’s diplomatic engagements with global partners. Following his retirement from the Indian Foreign Service, Sandhu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contested in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amritsar. Despite his electoral defeat, Sandhu was sworn in as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on March 11, emphasizing a collaborative approach to address the capital’s governance and developmental challenges.
