Eminent American trade and strategic advocacy group, the US–India Strategic Partnership Forum, has applauded India’s involvement in the Finance Ministerial on Securing Critical Minerals Supply Chains in Washington. This move is seen as a significant stride in enhancing cooperation between the US and India in a crucial strategic sector. India was represented at the meeting by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology.
USISPF highlighted India’s increasing importance in the global critical minerals landscape, emphasizing the country’s substantial reserves of vital resources like rare earth elements and its growing exploration and auction activities. Leveraging this geological advantage is deemed essential for India’s economic advancement, as critical minerals play a pivotal role in supporting advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and high-tech employment opportunities.
The forum underscored the mutual benefits of enhanced collaboration between the US and India in the critical minerals domain. For India, this cooperation aligns with its ambition to emerge as a global manufacturing and clean-energy hub. Meanwhile, for the United States, it contributes to securing dependable supply chains for energy transition technologies, semiconductors, and defense systems.
USISPF emphasized the potential for fresh investments in exploration, processing, and recycling in India through a robust bilateral partnership. Such initiatives, supported by US technology, capital, and global market access, can further solidify India’s resource potential into tangible projects and sustainable commercial agreements.
Encouraging closer government-industry ties, USISPF advocated for the establishment of transparent and consistent policy frameworks. The forum also endorsed collaborative ventures and technological alliances spanning the entire mine-to-market value chain, essential for translating India’s resource wealth into concrete ventures and enduring business contracts.
USISPF expressed eagerness for ongoing interactions with policymakers and industry leaders from both nations to advance pragmatic ventures that reinforce cooperation and foster resilient and trustworthy supply chains. The significance of critical minerals like lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earth elements in powering clean energy systems, electric vehicles, electronics, and defense technologies underscores the growing global imperative to ensure their sustainable supply.
India and the United States have deepened their collaboration in recent years across various sectors, including technology, defense, and supply chains, as part of broader initiatives to diversify sourcing channels and mitigate strategic vulnerabilities.
