US and partner forces have successfully neutralized nearly 25 ISIS operatives in Syria through a series of operations that commenced on December 20 and lasted for 19 days. These operations, which included 11 missions across Syria, resulted in the death of seven ISIS members, with the rest being captured. Additionally, four ISIS weapons caches were eliminated during these missions.
The coordinated efforts, led by the US, were part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, initiated on December 19. This operation involved strikes on over 70 ISIS targets using more than 100 precision munitions by US and Jordanian forces. Various aircraft, attack helicopters, and artillery systems were deployed to target ISIS infrastructure and weapons sites in central Syria.
Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM, emphasized the commitment to eradicating the ISIS threat to US and regional security. The subsequent missions that followed the initial large-scale strike aimed to capitalize on its impact by targeting ISIS operatives and resources in the immediate aftermath of the operation. These operations are crucial in dismantling the remaining ISIS networks and preventing any potential resurgence of the terrorist group.
CENTCOM highlighted the broader security implications of the ongoing operations in Syria, stressing that ISIS remains a threat beyond the region. Over the past year, US and partner forces have detained more than 300 terrorists and eliminated over 20, demonstrating a sustained effort to combat the group’s activities. By continuing to pursue terrorist operatives and disrupt ISIS networks, the collaborative efforts aim to enhance safety for America, the region, and the world.
