The US military stated that despite President Donald Trump’s warnings and potential control of Iranian oil facilities, commercial shipping persists in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump mentioned plans to take over Kharg Island and other oil points in the near future. US Central Command reported disabling a third commercial tanker, the M/T Jalveer, for allegedly breaching the blockade by transporting Iranian oil.
The military clarified that safe pathways have been established for commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz to ensure uninterrupted traffic. US forces have disabled nine non-compliant vessels, redirected 135 compliant ships, and allowed 42 humanitarian aid vessels since the operation began on April 13. The US military emphasized that the blockade applies to all nations entering or departing Iranian ports in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital energy chokepoint, sees a significant portion of globally traded crude oil and liquefied natural gas passing through. US forces remain positioned in the area to defend vessels against perceived Iranian aggression and challenge Iran’s claims over the waterway.
