US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged for a united international effort to combat a rise in far-left political terrorism. Representatives from 67 countries, including India, attended a State Department ministerial to discuss political violence trends and cross-border cooperation.
Rubio highlighted the need to address extremist violence from the political left, emphasizing the importance of protecting citizens regardless of political divides. He praised past international cooperation in countering radical Islamist extremism post-9/11, leading to a significant reduction in jihadist attacks.
Rubio emphasized the evolving threat of organized transnational networks involved in far-left political violence. He outlined strategies, including investigating and disrupting Antifa-linked terror networks, designating extremist groups as foreign terrorist organizations, and launching international law enforcement initiatives.
Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also emphasized the importance of intelligence cooperation and financial enforcement against organizations supporting political violence. India’s participation underscores the ongoing counterterrorism collaboration within the broader India-US strategic partnership.
