US Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted the significance of the Quad, comprising vibrant democracies representing a third of the world’s GDP and sharing strong values. The Quad members, including India, Australia, and Japan, announced initiatives on maritime security, port infrastructure, and energy security. Rubio expressed gratitude for the productive discussions and emphasized the partnership’s transition into actionable initiatives.
Rubio unveiled initiatives such as the Indo-Pacific Maritime Surveillance Cooperation and the expansion of the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness. He commended India for agreeing to host the upcoming Quad at Sea mission, emphasizing the criticality of maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region. The Quad nations also pledged to collaborate on enhancing port infrastructure, with plans to assist Fiji in this endeavor.
Addressing the issue of critical minerals, Rubio introduced the Quad Critical Minerals Framework to strengthen supply chains and promote cooperation in mining and processing. Additionally, the Quad Initiative on Indo-Pacific Energy Security aims to bolster regional energy resilience through technology cooperation and emergency response exercises. Rubio reiterated the commitment to the Quad partnership, emphasizing its importance in the US global strategy.
