US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Jaipur on Monday as part of his India visit, leading to increased security measures and temporary traffic restrictions in the city. Rubio, accompanied by his family, flew into Jaipur Airport from Agra and headed straight to Amer Fort. Due to the high-profile nature of the visit, traffic was halted along the 19-kilometre route from Jaipur Airport to Amer via Jawaharlal Nehru Marg.
Authorities advised people to avoid the area for several hours due to the movement of VVIPs and security arrangements. Rubio’s itinerary includes visits to Jaipur’s iconic Amer Fort and City Palace. Additionally, he may explore the Elephant Village as part of his cultural tour. To accommodate the dignitary, Amer Fort was closed to tourists from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. based on security directives.
Elaborate arrangements were made at the historic monument to welcome Rubio with traditional Rajasthani hospitality. Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari is set to welcome Rubio at Jaleb Chowk inside Amer Fort. Cultural performances showcasing Rajasthan’s heritage like Ghoomar, Kalbelia, and Kachchi Ghodi dances, along with traditional puppet shows, have been organized.
Rubio’s Jaipur visit follows his stop in Agra, where he visited the Taj Mahal with his wife, Jeannette D. Rubio. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor was also part of the delegation during the Agra visit. Security agencies and the Jaipur administration are on high alert during Rubio’s stay, with police and security teams deployed at key locations to ensure safety.
After his brief stay in Jaipur, Rubio is scheduled to depart for New Delhi on Tuesday morning. His visit is seen as significant from diplomatic and tourism perspectives, showcasing Jaipur’s rising importance as an international destination.
