The United States is planning to extradite Lawrence Bishnoi, a gangster, from India to face federal racketeering charges. Bishnoi, along with his alleged lieutenant Satinderjeet Singh, is accused of leading a criminal enterprise involved in murder, extortion, kidnappings, and drug trafficking. US authorities aim to prevent Bishnoi from running a global criminal network while in custody.
RCMP Deputy Commissioner Lisa Moreland confirmed that the US intends to pursue Bishnoi’s extradition from India. Bishnoi is alleged to have orchestrated criminal activities using contraband communication devices from an Indian prison. Removing Bishnoi and his senior leadership is seen as a significant blow to the criminal organization’s operations, enhancing public safety in Canada and beyond.
During Operation Hard Ball in Los Angeles, First Assistant US Attorney Bilal A. Essayli expressed confidence in bringing another gang leader, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, to face American justice. Moreland highlighted the cooperation of Indian authorities in the multinational probe, emphasizing the joint efforts with US agencies to address organized crime activities.
US authorities have indicted 37 defendants across three separate cases targeting organized crime groups. While 24 suspects have been apprehended in the US, Canada, and Europe, others are still at large, accused of various criminal activities spanning multiple continents.
