US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, who is also the US Ambassador to India, visited Nepal and met with Foreign Minister Sishir Khanal and Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle. The discussions focused on enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries and various bilateral issues. Gor highlighted priorities such as improving the business environment, creating technology-related job opportunities, and fostering economic collaboration beneficial to both nations.

The US has shown a growing interest in investing in Nepal’s technology sector, with companies like Starlink and Netflix exploring opportunities in the Nepali market. Talks also revolved around US aid to Nepal, with recent developments indicating a shift in aid patterns. Despite challenges, the US remains engaged in assisting Nepal through initiatives like the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), aimed at infrastructure projects like the Butwal-Gorakhpur Cross-Border Transmission Line.

During the meetings, discussions extended to deepening Nepal-US relations, trade promotion, and investment facilitation. The US Embassy highlighted the importance of expanding trade and advancing MCC initiatives. The visit comes amidst a series of high-profile visits to Nepal by officials from major global powers, including the US, China, and upcoming visits by Indian authorities.
