The United States is hesitating to accept certain terms of a potential memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran to end the war, as reported by the semi-official Tasnim news agency. Despite recent discussions between the two sides, the US is blocking specific clauses of the potential peace MoU, including the release of Iran’s frozen assets. There is a chance that the MoU might be scrapped, with Iran emphasizing its commitment to protecting its people’s rights.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei revealed that Iran and the US are in the process of finalizing an MoU to end the war. Baghaei highlighted that the focus is on halting the ongoing conflict and that the initial aim is to agree on an MoU comprising 14 clauses. He mentioned that Tehran and Washington aim to reach a final agreement within 30 to 60 days, addressing crucial topics such as the cessation of US maritime attacks and the release of Iranian frozen assets.
After a ceasefire on April 8 following 40 days of conflict initiated by US and Israeli attacks on Iran, peace talks were held in Pakistan’s Islamabad on April 11 and 12. However, the discussions did not lead to a resolution between the Iranian and US delegations.
