The USA secured a 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium, advancing to the Round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Goals by Folarin Balogun and Malik Tillman, despite Balogun’s red card, propelled the co-hosts to the next stage where they will face Belgium.
This win marked the USA’s second World Cup knockout stage triumph and ended a 12-game winless streak against European opponents. It also signifies the USMNT’s fourth Round of 16 appearance in the last four World Cup tournaments.
Balogun’s goal, following a deflection off Tillman’s pass, broke the deadlock just before halftime. Despite a red card reducing the USA to 10 men, Tillman’s free-kick sealed the victory after a disallowed goal by Christian Pulisic.
Looking ahead, the USA will challenge Belgium at Seattle Stadium on July 7, aiming to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the second time in the modern era and the first time since 2002.
