Utpal Parrikar, son of late Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, has introduced ‘Ami Panjekar’ as a non-political platform for addressing civic concerns in the upcoming Panaji City Corporation elections. This initiative aims to focus on local issues rather than engaging in direct political confrontations with the BJP. Parrikar emphasized that the forum includes individuals from diverse political backgrounds dedicated to enhancing civic engagement.
Clarifying the purpose of ‘Ami Panjekar,’ Parrikar stressed that it is not a political endeavor but an independent citizens’ group. The panel consists of members with various political affiliations who have positively contributed to Panaji’s development. Parrikar highlighted the inclusive nature of the initiative, mentioning that the team comprises individuals from different parties.
Parrikar’s primary goal is to contribute to public welfare and enhance civic administration in Panaji. He emphasized that the initiative is independent of any political party and focuses on addressing local issues collectively. The platform aims to tackle civic concerns like casino operations and waste management within the municipal body’s jurisdiction through appropriate channels.
Parrikar and his associates are gearing up for the CCP elections, positioning ‘Ami Panjekar’ as an independent choice for voters. They plan to field candidates across all 30 wards and have been engaging with voters, former corporators, and potential candidates to garner support. Parrikar, who contested as an independent candidate in the recent Goa Assembly elections, is working towards building a broad-based platform while maintaining the panel’s independent identity.
Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate expressed confidence in his panel’s prospects for the CCP elections and stated that candidates have been finalized in consultation with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and party leadership. Parrikar criticized the current civic administration for not adequately addressing local concerns and stressed the importance of public involvement in decision-making processes.
The CCP elections are scheduled for March 11, with the counting set for March 13.
