The Uttar Pradesh administration demolished the Mustafa Qadri Mosque in Sambhal, citing illegal construction on a graveyard portion. District Magistrate Ankit Khandelwal stated that the mosque was built on public land without authorization, leading to its demolition. Authorities found posters with ‘I Love Mohammad’ and flags at the site during the process.
Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi mentioned the discovery of ‘I love Muhammed’ posters and flags, promising an investigation into their origin and significance. Security measures were heightened with personnel from four police stations deployed at the location. Additionally, a fine of Rs 1,12,800 was imposed on the mosque manager for non-compliance.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nidhi Patel confirmed the fine against the mosque manager, who did not contest the demolition. However, a local resident expressed dissatisfaction, claiming their viewpoint was not considered in the court’s decision. Allegations of a rushed and one-sided legal process were raised, questioning the fairness of the proceedings.
