Sleuths from the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) conducted raids at a Trinamool Congress leader’s home and a madrasa in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. The search operations targeted Abdullah Gazi’s residence and the Rameswarpur Darul Uloom madrasa in Rameswarpur village.
Investigators suspect that foreign funds were funneled into Abdullah Gazi’s and his son’s bank accounts for the madrasa’s development. Earlier, Abdullah Gazi had been arrested on similar charges by the Uttar Pradesh ATS, leading to ongoing investigations. New raids were initiated after acquiring fresh case-related documents.
The probe reveals that significant foreign money meant for madrasa construction was diverted through shell companies instead of being utilized as intended. Authorities suspect a portion of these funds might have been used for illicit purposes like terror financing. Upon the raid, both Abdullah Gazi and his son were reportedly missing, while search operations continued with document scrutiny at Gazi’s residence.
In parallel, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at a trust, educational institution, and madrasa linked to businessman Abdus Samad in Haroa, Basirhat. This action followed the detection of substantial foreign-currency transactions in Abdus Samad’s associated bank accounts.
