The Uttar Pradesh government has informed the Supreme Court about the reconstitution of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating financial irregularities related to donations received by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The SIT, led by Inspector General of Police Mr. Kiran S, has already commenced its investigation with a team comprising senior IPS officers. The court emphasized the need for a forensic auditor to be part of the SIT due to the nature of the allegations involving trust fund misappropriation.
The newly formed SIT includes IG Kiran S as the head, with DIG Ayodhya Somen Verma and SSP Ayodhya Dr. Gaurav Grover as members. Responding to a suggestion for an independent accountant to join the team, the Solicitor General assured inclusion. The Supreme Court directed the SIT to provide a status report, underscoring the importance of a fair and efficient investigation process. The court also highlighted the significance of ensuring that devotees’ donations reach the Trust as intended.
During the hearing, concerns were raised about donations not reaching the Trust despite contributions from devotees across the country. The court acknowledged the issue but emphasized the ongoing investigation’s priority. The focus remains on conducting a thorough and prompt investigation to address any irregularities in the handling of donations and offerings. The court indicated that necessary actions would be taken based on the SIT’s report to ensure transparency and accountability.
