Uttar Pradesh Police encountered and fatally shot Ravi Yadav, the main suspect in the Jaunpur groom murder case, after he fired at a police team. Yadav, who had a Rs 1 lakh reward on his head, was sought for his involvement in the groom’s killing during a wedding procession in Jaunpur earlier this month.
The exchange of gunfire occurred during a late-night combing operation in the Gorari area under the Khetasarai police station’s jurisdiction. When confronted by the police, Yadav and an accomplice opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defence.
Ravi Yadav sustained bullet injuries during the shootout and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead. Additionally, a police officer was injured, and another narrowly escaped harm during the incident. One of Yadav’s associates managed to flee the scene under the cover of darkness.
Police are conducting raids at various locations to apprehend the absconding suspect. The groom murder case, which sparked public outrage, involved the fatal shooting of Azad Bind on May 1 as he traveled with his wedding procession. Investigations suggest a conspiracy involving Pradeep Bind, a relative of the bride, and others in the murder plot.
