Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board Chairman Mufti Shamoon Qasmi backed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s opposition to offering namaz on public roads. He emphasized that those claiming to represent the Muslim community often lack a proper understanding of Islamic teachings.
CM Yogi Adityanath stressed that public roads should not be used for offering namaz, highlighting the need for smooth traffic flow and daily commuting without disruptions. He suggested organizing religious gatherings at designated places in an orderly manner to prevent overcrowding and inconvenience to the public.
Qasmi, in support of CM Yogi’s stance, emphasized the importance of public convenience and discipline. He agreed that roads are primarily for transportation and emergency purposes, not for blocking due to religious activities. Qasmi commended CM Yogi’s suggestion of conducting namaz in shifts for large gatherings to avoid disturbances.
The Madrasa Board chairman differentiated between namaz on roads and religious processions like Rath Yatras, stressing the need for consistent religious observance. He criticized self-proclaimed Muslim community representatives, suggesting that a true understanding of Islam would lead them to appreciate CM Yogi’s concerns for public order.
