In a successful operation, Chamoli Police in Uttarakhand solved a ‘blind murder’ case involving local resident Rajendra Singh almost six weeks after the crime. Singh, who went missing on May 18 and was later found dead, had no known personal enmity or accusations against anyone, making the case challenging. Despite this, the police managed to apprehend a suspect on Wednesday with the help of forensic inputs and extensive search efforts.
Rajendra Singh, a resident of Devpuri village, disappeared after leaving for work on May 18, causing distress to his family when his phone was switched off and he could not be reached. A week later, his dead body was discovered in a ravine in Village Devpuril, with his legs and one arm tied with a rope. The Forensic Team, after inspecting the site and collecting evidence, determined the case as murder under Section 103(1)/238 of the BNS.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to delve into the blind murder case, led by the Deputy SP, which meticulously analyzed technical evidence and pursued leads from the dog squad. After intense interrogation, the team arrested Devendra Singh from Chaudadhar village for the alleged murder. While details on the motive and sequence of events leading to the murder are awaited, the arrest marks a significant development in resolving the case.
The suspect was presented before the court on Wednesday and remanded to 14-day judicial custody for further investigation into the murder’s circumstances and potential involvement of others.
