In a significant move against counterfeit drug production, the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) uncovered a major operation in the industrial area of Bazpur, Udham Singh Nagar. Acting in conjunction with the Drug Administration Department, the STF raided ‘Kovil Biotech’ and seized a substantial quantity of illicitly produced medicines bearing known brand names but lacking proper manufacturing licenses.
The investigation revealed that the illegal facility was producing and distributing fake allopathic and life-saving drugs, falsely labeled under Ayurvedic and food licenses from reputable companies like STADMED, Macleods, Intas, and Sun Pharma. The confiscated items included around 1 lakh tablets and 15,000 bottles of syrups used for various medical conditions.
A person named Dhirendra was apprehended during the operation. The crackdown followed tips and specific intelligence, leading to the discovery of counterfeit medicines, along with illegal liquor, holograms from Uttarakhand Excise, wrappers, bottle caps, and packaging materials.
